Yoshiko M. Kido

Yoshiko (Mary) Kido passed away at home Saturday, July 23, 2016. She was born Oct. 14, 1922 in Portland, Oregon to Tadao and Fusano Mayeda. At age 9 her parents sent her and little brother Kinichi to Japan to live with relatives in Okayama and attend school, including a 2-yr. women's college. She was able to return to America just prior to World War II, but without her brother, which broke her heart. She and her parents were allowed to relocate, taking what they could load in their pickup truck to Utah, because her mother had relatives already living here.

In 1949 she married Jimmy Kido, and they were happily together for 54 years. Also in 1949 they bought a farm in Sandy, Utah, where she, her parents, and Jimmy farmed for over 4 decades. After retiring from farming she worked at Brown Floral. Yoshiko loved flowers and enjoyed flower arranging, but also needlepoint and gardening; most of all she loved being a nanny to her only grandchild Bryan. In 2007 she was diagnosed with Alzheimers, which we hope someday a cure can be found.

She is survived by her son Steve, grandson Bryan, and daughter-in-law Karen. She is preceded in death by parents Tadao and Fusano, brother Kinichi, husband Jimmy, and son Arthur. There is comfort in knowing she's with them.

The family would like to thank everyone at Harmony Hospice for their loving care and support, especially Becky and Alissa.

A Buddhist service will be held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, Utah, 2 p.m. Monday, August 1st, with a viewing from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 E. 7800 S. (Bengal Blvd.) after the memorial service.
