Wilma Jean Stens passed in her home on October 6, 2023, in Nephi, UT surrounded by her children.
Wilma was born on September 25, 1937, in Grand Junction, CO to William James and Una Caroline Mitchell Porter. She was the third of six children: Renee, William Deloy, William James, Edward and Gary. She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, UT where her graduation dance card was filled with only one name: Gerald (Jerry) Stens. They were married on April 27, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple. She was mother to Timothy, Gerald (Jerry) Jr, and Valerie. Wilma worked for the government in civil service for many years. They lived in many places due to Jerry’s military service, including Florida, North Carolina, and California. When Sunnymead (Moreno Valley), CA gained a second stop light, they moved to Mesquite, NV. Mesquite grew too big with a second stop light after living there a few years and finally moved to Nephi, UT.
Her family’s fond memories include her and Jerry dancing at parties, having a lead foot that includes hitting a curb after missing an exit on the highway in DC, driving off base for food in a blizzard against MP advisement with all three kids in the backseat of the car, and going on numerous cruises with her youngest brother, Gary, and his wife, Jolene.
She is preceded by her parents, husband Jerry, son Tim, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her son, Jerry Jr, and daughter Valerie (Emmy), sisters in law: Jolene (Gary), Valerie (Deloy), and Shannon (Jim), grandson Matthew and great grandson Ryan.
