William Neil Workman

William Neil Workman, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away November 2, 2017 of natural causes in Sandy, Utah.  Born in Sheridan, Wyoming August 22, 1935 to loving parents, Richard Lester Workman and Ferris Ann Pratt Workman, Bill was one of the good guys in this world.  He loved and cared for his family, friends, and country and held a deep testimony of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Bill grew up in Farmington, Utah where he attended Davis High School and was known as the "Kaysville Comet."  A three sport letterman, he was an all-state football and baseball player, and state champion sprinter.  He went on to play football and baseball for the University of Utah and remained a sports fan and loyal Ute Alumnus his entire life.

Bill married his high school sweetheart Diane Gail Saxey Workman while attending the University of Utah in 1955.  They were later married for all time and eternity in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1972. Upon graduation from the University Bill joined the United States Navy to fly jet planes.  With persistent ear issues he was reassigned as a medic and served the remainder of his duty in San Francisco working with Naval and Marine personnel and playing baseball for the Navy.  His service to his country was a central part of his life and he was always a true patriot to his country.

Upon discharge from the Navy, Bill moved his family, which now included his three children Dana Lee, Laurie Suzanne, and Curtis Wayne briefly to Bountiful, Utah before moving to Oregon where he worked for Travelers Insurance, as an assistant manager and manager, later moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota as a region manager.  Bill was a born salesman because of his sense of humor, storytelling, and ability to talk to anyone.  Everywhere he went he knew someone.

Retiring from Travelers Insurance, Bill returned to Utah and opened his own financial planning company and renewed his love for motorcycles.  He was a founding member of the Temple Rider Association (TRA), a group of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that toured the United States on their motorcycles.  Bill traveled to every state in the US on a motorcycle and visited 32 LDS temples.

Upon the death of his beloved Diane in 1985, Bill was fortunate to find and marry a second love of his life, Mary Jean.  Together they blended two families and served two LDS missions; one inner city and an addiction recovery mission.

Bill was known as a hard-working, gregarious man who took extra care for his family. He worked multiple jobs early in his life to support his family and took on multiple roles at home for many years when his wife Diane suffered from a heart condition. He could tease his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in a loving manner that endeared him to them.  He will be missed dearly.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Diane, and brothers Richard and Edward Workman.  He is survived by his sister Ernestine Workman Held (Melville); wife Mary Jean; daughters Dana Bickmore (Steve), Laurie Putnam (Byron), Jennifer Hastings (Jason); sons Curt Workman (Cindy), Greg Reid (Rae), Steve Reid (Jenai), Matt Reid (Mindy), Mark Reid (Cathe); 36 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Crescent Park 5th Ward, 11350 South 1300 East, Sandy, Utah. Viewings will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, Utah and 1 hour prior to the services, at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
