William Rex Mower Jr.

William Rex Mower Jr., 84, passed away on December 22, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on March 22, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the oldest child of Eula Barrus Mower and William Rex Mower Sr. He had one sister, Judith Mower, who preceded him in death. During Judy's illness and up until her passing, Bill cared for her with respect, dignity, compassion, and pure love. Bill attended Irving Junior High and South High School. Bill served in the United States Air Force. During his four years of service, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He went on to work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an air traffic controller and eventually moved to the FAA's automation department working as a computer programmer. After retiring from the FAA, Bill went to work for DISC, a subsidiary of IBM.

He met and married the absolute love of his life, Paula Nan Blanch, and together they raised six children. They were married on June 16, 1954 and later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Paula was Bill's true love and best friend. During his battle with dementia he never forgot his sweet companion Paula. Every time he saw her, his face lit up and he immediately gave her a loving kiss. If she wasn't right next to him holding his hand, he would ask where is Paula again and again until her hand was in his. Paula was his most loved caregiver and companion until his dying breath. Their love is an example to us all.

Bill and Paula served a church mission in the California San Bernardino Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They served under the direction of his friend and brother-in-law, G. Marsden Blanch and his sweet wife, Lynette Blanch. This service was a highlight in his life, as he loved those he served with and he truly loved the Lord.

He is survived by his loving wife, Paula Nan Blanch Mower; children, Jeanne (Keith) Bradford, Bill (Suzanne) Mower, Matt (Karen) Mower, Scott (Kerry) Mower, Alecia (Kevin) Taylor, Janette (Gary) Serdar and 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, sister and son-in-law, Kreg Jeppson. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Silverado for their loving care. A special thank you to Elmer, Marty and Jen who were especially kind to "Uncle Bill" during his illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Hidden Valley Stake Center, 1450 East Raddon Drive, Sandy, Utah. There will be a viewing on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 S. 700 E., Draper, and again Friday at the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
