Bill passed away at the age of 89 on June 16, 2015 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born on December 9, 1925 in Flushing, NY. He was an accomplished scholar, entering college at the age of 16 and was then drafted into the Army where he served until 1946.
Bill was decorated with the World War II Victory, Bronze Star, Good Conduct, and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medals. With his law degree, Bill also served as the Senior Vice President of the Hudson Bay Fur Company for 32 years. He was the corporate legal supervisor, director and secretary, loan officer to fur farmers, and chief auctioneer. His career included extensive travel as he managed both the northwestern U.S. and European regions.
Bill is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary Jane Madigan, his sons Richard (Jean) and Kevin (Barbara) Madigan, stepsons Richard (Laura) and Ken (Kathy) Gross, and stepdaughters Kallie Sill, Sherri Morgan, and Vicki VanAlstine. He had 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Ruth Barretto, his mother Margaret Madigan, and stepson Brian Phillips.
He was proud of his family and his accomplishments in the fur industry. Bill was a genuine person who loved food and conversation. He will be remembered for his life of duty, honor, and love of learning. The interment will be in Flushing, NY.
