William Andrew Henderson

William Andrew Henderson, 46 years old, passed away February 19, in Draper Utah surrounded by loved ones.

Andrew was born February 22, 1978, to William Dorrell Henderson and Maria H. J. Saris Henderson and was welcomed into the family as the 4th of 6 children. He was a mischievous ray of sunshine in the family, always smiling and happy, chasing around with his siblings. With happiness, there were also many trials. He was diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome as a child and then as a teenager and adult endured 16 operations, 5 broken bones, 2 kinds of cancer, a full bone marrow transplant, and serious infections too numerous to count.

Through it all he remained kind, loving and cheerful and very rarely complained even when suffering excruciating pain. Andrew loved everyone, trying his hardest to please and include everyone. He loved his family! He gave family pizza parties for birthdays, donuts and cider on Halloween, he made his famous mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving, provided treats and hot chocolate for Christmas visitors, and sharing afternoon teatime with him was a special treat. Andrew made sure all his nieces and nephews received birthday cards and presents and he called to check on you at dinnertime. He loved his doctors, nurses and caregivers and left them in awe of his sweet attitude and goodwill.

At 6’7” and 350 lbs, he was the “Gentle Giant”. He loved Andre the Giant as Fezic in The Princess Bride, his favorite movie. Andrew leaves behind his beloved cat, Princess and brothers and sisters: Marrisse (Aaron) Abbott; Spencer (Tammy) Henderson; Miekka (James) Lance; Christopher (Anna) Henderson; Amy Beckner, twelve nephews and nieces and special aunts, uncles and cousins. Andrew’s family was his whole world! 

Andrew made his mark in the world! He touched everyone who knew him with his love. Andrew, our hearts go with you on your new adventure. Peace at last for our gentle giant! We love you!

Andrew’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, February 27 at the Draper 12th Ward Building, 13112 South 700 East, Draper. Viewing at 10:30 and funeral at 12:00. He will be interred at the Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Blvd.
