"Together Again"

Our beloved father and grandfather has been reunited with his loving wife Nyla after passing peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the age of 89.

Bill was born on March 4, 1928 in Sheridan, Montana to Hazel Cheney and William Schowe, and spent his first few years there living on a sheep ranch. In spite of his aversion to water, he joined the U.S. Navy after graduation from Sheridan High School in 1946, where he served as a Petty Officer First Grade on the USS Nereus, a submarine tender.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he first attended Montana State University, then Utah State University where he graduated in Range Management in 1952. While attending USU, he met the love of his life, Nyla Deign Nichols at a church dance in Salt Lake City. They married in June of 1952 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and enjoyed 62 wonderful years together.

He worked for thirty years for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in the Fillmore, Murray and Salt Lake Districts of Utah, and Susanville, California. After his retirement, he worked for Sears' Automotive Department in Murray, Utah.

He enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, hunting, gardening, auto repair, and working with electronics. He was a member of the Society for Range Management, the Masonic Lodge and the Episcopal Church.

His family and friends remember Bill as a kind-hearted and gentle man who was soft spoken, generous and involved in his community and church. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Bill and Nyla enjoyed traveling together on cruises and road trips often to visit family and friends. They loved watching Lawrence Welk every week and enjoyed attending local theatre productions.

His parents and his wife preceded him in death. He is survived by his two sons Derryll (former wife Sheral Schowe) of Sandy, UT; Dallan (Belle) of Mountain View, CA; and his grandson, Devin, of Salt Lake City.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the kind and respectful care received from the staff of the Shock Trauma ICU of the Intermountain Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Public Lands Foundation at P.O. Box 7226, Arlington, VA 22207.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec. 28, at 12 Noon at the Murray City Cemetery, 5600 S. Vine St. There will be viewings Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale.
