Bill Brown, father, grandfather, husband, and friend to everyone he met, passed away peacefully from the effects of Alzheimer's at the age of 84 in South Jordan, Utah.
He was born a fraternal twin to Millard Leslie Brown and Hazel Belle Harrington in St. Cloud, Florida on September 13, 1934.
He graduated from St. Cloud High School home of the Bulldogs in 1954. He was known as a kind, gentle and handsome man who loved to dance! He was a member of FFA, Vice President of DCT, and Treasurer. He was voted outstanding personality, best date, best dressed, and best disposition. His quote in his yearbook said, "Think what you think, because you will live with your thoughts."
After high school, Bill moved to Chicago and worked at the Bell and Gossett Pump Manufacturing Company along with his brothers Robert and Millard. It was there in Chicago where he met the beautiful Joyce Mae Pike. They married in a Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Illinois on October 27, 1956. Soon their first child, William Scott Brown Jr. was born on August 16, 1957. Joyce wanted to move closer to relatives so they packed up and moved to Saugus, California where on October 9, 1959 a second son, Robert Scott Brown was born. During this time Bill was a Butcher for ACME Meat Company. On April 26, 1961 a daughter, Cynthia Ann was born and joined their little family.
In 1968, missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints contacted the family where they were taught the Gospel and played board games together. August 31, 1968, Joyce, Scott and Robert were baptized. On May 3, 1969, Bill and Cindy were baptized. A few years passed when on February 9, 1971 a large earthquake magnitude 6.5 rocked their home! (This was the San Fernando "Sylmar" quake). The trauma from this earthquake made the family uneasy to live in California any more, especially for Joyce, so Bill quit his job, packed up their belongings and moved to where "the Mormons are" in Utah! They lived in a sixteen foot travel trailer for six or seven months while Bill found work at Fogle Reddi Mix. They moved to a home in Sandy on Hibiscus Drive. Eventually they built a new home at 78 Wheatfield Circle, Draper, Utah.
Bill also found new employment and became a truck driver for Northwest Transport "NW" where he delivered goods locally. It was during this time that Bill and Joyce parted ways and were divorced. He retired after 22 years and received the safe driver award.
Most of Bill's life involved dancing, and after retirement Bill kept active and healthy by continuing to go line dancing, country dancing or square dancing. His feet were magic on the dance floor and his smile was contagious as we admired his talent and smooth moves! He loved yard work and could always be found trimming the lawn, planting a flower, or mowing the back 40! He took great pride in making his home beautiful! He loved to visit his kids and grandkids EARLY Saturday mornings, often times bringing Slurpees! He was fit and trim and never ate cheese! He loved his pets, especially the many cats he fondly named "Wowers." He spoke slow and precise and always reminded us that we "come from good stock!"
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce, daughter Cynthia Chavez, twin brother Robert (Bobby), and sister Marilyn Carr. He is survived by his sons, Scott (Tammy), Las Vegas, Nevada, Robert (Valaine), Draper, Utah, son-in-law Miguel Chavez, West Jordan, Utah and brother Millard, Burbank, California, 12 grandchildren and their spouses, 25 great grandchildren, and one more he will help send down next month!
We would like to thank the employees of Carrington Court and Active Hospice for their genuine love and care for Bill and for helping him feel at home away from home!
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. (viewing one hour prior at 10:00 a.m.) at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, Utah. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
We know you're dancing on cloud 9! "I hope to shout!"
