Werner Ochsenhirt

Werner Ochsenhirt passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022. Werner was born August 11, 1937 in the small village of Elffolderabach, Germany. He was the second child born to Fredrich Ochsenhirt and Elise Gottschalk. He had a sister, Anni, a year older, a brother, Fred, a year younger and his youngest sister, Elfriede. When Werner was six years old, the four children were orphaned. His father was missing in action in Russia and his mother died of pneumonia. Aunts and Uncles helped raise the children. Werner immigrated to the United States (Salt Lake City, Utah) at the age of 17 in August of 1955. Five years later, he completed the citizenship process and became a citizen of the United States. Werner started working as a dry wall finisher with his brother, uncle and cousin just days after arriving in Salt Lake City. He became a master craftsman working 55 years in this occupation. He married Jeanette on February 25, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their daughter, Marian, was a great blessing to him and a companion on fishing trips when she was young. Werner loved the mountains, hunting and fishing - especially fishing. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them. He is survived by his wife Jeanette, daughter Marian (Craig Brooksby), grandsons Matthew Brooksby (Amy), Dustin Brooksby (Emily), four great-grandchildren Brittney, Logan, Ethan, and Lexi, and brother Fred Ochsenhirt.
