On Thursday, December 22, 2022, Wayne Schofield Andrews peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father. He was living an active life until Mid-November when he suffered a stroke which impaired his ability to communicate. Despite the frustrating experience, he was an example of perseverance by remaining pleasant with his family and caregivers. He always showed love and appreciation for those that visited him. Shortly after a second stroke, he was blessed to reunite with his loving wife.
Wayne was born on November 13, 1934 in Nephi, Utah. He was the fourth of five children born to James “Erva” and Rita Schofield Andrews. Wayne learned the value of hard work by working on the family dairy farm and spending summers running a team of horses in the fields west of Nephi.
After graduating from Juab High School, he attended Henagers School of Business, where he met the love of his life, Joyce Palmer. They were married August 19, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple, and spent 57 years together. They lived in Salt Lake City for five years and Las Vegas for 19 years before moving to Wayne’s hometown of Nephi.
Wayne had a great work ethic. He spent years as an accountant and started managing elderly housing apartments in the early 1980’s. He continued to work until his stroke, even though he was older than most of his tenants.
Wayne was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of his last church callings was serving as stake auditor which he continued with until he was 80 years old. He also enjoyed serving in the Kiwanis Club where he served in multiple leadership positions both locally and throughout the state.
Family was important to Wayne. There was nobody more important in his life than his wife. Together, they lovingly raised four children. They were also examples to 22 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Mae Palmer Andrews; father, James Erva Andrews; mother, Rita Whitworth Schofield Andrews; sisters, Erveena Blake and Margetta Wilcox; brother, Thomas Earl Andrews; great-grandchild, Jason Douglas Judd. He is survived by his brother, James Don Andrews, and children Ray (Kim) Andrews of Nephi, Utah; Chris (Tracy) Andrews of Nephi, Utah; JoLayne (Terry) Olson of Storm Lake, Iowa; Ron (LeAnn) Andrews of Spanish Fork, Utah.
Whenever you asked Grandpa Andrews how he was doing, his response was always the same. “I’m fine.” As a family, we’re happy that our father and grandfather is now doing fine.
For those who wish to pay their respects, a viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the L.D.S. Chapel at 222 South 100 East in Nephi, Utah at 9:30 a.m. A funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. Wayne will be laid to rest in the Nephi Vine Bluff cemetery.
