Wanita Lee Ray (Grammie), returned home to our loving Heavenly Father and the welcoming arms of Dar and Larry. She passed away on October 30, 2023 at her home with loving family around her. Wanita was born June 1, 1932 in Morgan County, West Virginia to James and Rachel Miller.
She moved to Utah in 1950 and met and married Darwin Ray on July 14, 1952. They were blessed with son Larry and enjoyed the years with him. Wanita traveled for many years as a chaperone with the Jordan High School band supporting Larry in everything he did. This is where she received her name, Momma Ray. Larry passed away unexpectedly from them at the age of 18. Wanita was a homemaker and also worked outside the home at Sears and at the Ute Drive-In Theater with Dar.
Wanita had many loves. She enjoyed gardening, especially keeping up her roses. She spent over 20 years working in the Cub Scouting program teaching boys love for God, country and family. She spent countless hours doing craft and working on genealogy, and teaching many of the youth how to study out their ancestors. Her nightly routine involved her love for Neapolitan ice cream. As many of you know, her greatest love was taking care of others, especially children. She was an avid weekly bowler with a 138 average and bowled every week until she was 87.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father and siblings, her husband Darwin, and son Larry. She is survived by her son Brad, 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren that she claimed as her own.
Services will be held November 4, 2023 at the LDS Chapel on 235 East 9800 South, Sandy, UT, starting at 11 am. A viewing will be held the same day from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the same location.
