Wallace Elroy Broberg, Jr.

Wallace ElRoy Broberg Jr. was born on May 17, 1926 and died Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the age of 90, in his Midvale home.

He was born to Wallace ElRoi (European spelling) Broberg Sr. and Florence Aline Morris Broberg in Salt Lake City, UT. (Both father and son spelled their middle names without the capital R, although that's how it was on their birth certificates.) The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where Wally attended public schools until he graduated from North Phoenix High School.

After high school, he joined the Navy and served in the South Pacific on the USS Levy, where their crew took the first surrender of the Japanese, two weeks before they reenacted it on the USS Missouri.

Wally briefly attended Phoenix Jr. College, where he was a kicker for the football team. He always loved football and was a big BYU football fan. He attended BYU where he studied film and theater and later earned a teaching certificate. He was given a block Y at BYU for his service in speech and drama and was very proud of that.

Over the years, Wally worked in many professions, but his main love was photography and cinematography. He filmed and edited movies in Hollywood and many other locations, worked as a teacher in various schools, owned his own sporting goods store in Phoenix for a time, and worked some in the restaurant business.

Wally enjoyed life and had many hobbies including oil painting, photography, and playing the drums to big band swing music. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was proud of the fact that he played as a child with, "Little Tommy Monson" up Provo Canyon. Wally enjoyed his years serving as a scout master and helping the youth with Roadshows. Wally loved his family very much and tried to encourage them in their interests.
