Viola Beth Beers

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away December 14, 2015 in Ogden, Utah from complications from a stroke.  She was 89 years old.

Beth was born on October 7, 1926 in East Millcreek, Utah to Elmer Millard Williams and Nellie Mae Wardell Williams.  She was the fourth child in a large family of nine children.  She married Kenneth Don Beers on November 22, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple.  She met Ken when she was shopping in his brother's grocery store in April 1946 while he was working there.  They dated for 6 months before they were married.

She is a member of the LDS Church.  She served in many Church callings as Ward Primary Secretary, Ward and Stake Young Women's Activity Counselor, Nursey Teacher, Ward Librarian and as Ward and Stake Dance Directors with Ken, which she enjoyed very much.  She loved to dance and sing.  She also loved to do jig-saw puzzles, crossword puzzles and reading.

She graduated from Jordan High School in 1944.  She enjoyed her school years very much and served on her class reunion committee since 1979.  After graduating from high school, Beth worked as an elevator operator for Auerbach's department store in Salt Lake.  She also worked for Mountain State Telephone and Telegraph Company in accounting and also later as a telephone operator until 1955 when dial telephones were put in. She worked 10 years in accounting in Midvale, Utah.  She worked as a Postal Clerk for 5 years in the West Jordan Post Office after which she was appointed as a Rural Mail Carrier in that same office.  She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1985 after 22 years of service.  She and Ken also loved working several years as volunteers at the V.A. Hospital.

Loving and generous, Beth's greatest joy in life came from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She loved being with them, watching them in their various activities and celebrating their accomplishments.  Later on in life she enjoyed traveling with her children and their families.  She especially enjoyed the vacation she and Ken spent with the whole family at Disneyland.  She was a faithful mother to her family, holding many family activities and gatherings.  She loved to shop and spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with gifts.

She is survived by her children, two daughters and one son; Carrie Sue (Dee) Minnoch, Jennie (Robin) Porter, and Jamie (Lynnette) Beers.  Her posterity includes 10 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters Fay Meyers, Joan Lloyd and Mavis Skinner. She is preceded in death by her husband Ken; sisters, Marjorie Butterfield, Donna Graf, Lawana Webb, and brothers, Joseph (Bud) and Keith Williams.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah.  Viewing will be held Friday December 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary with an additional viewing 1 hour prior to the service.

We are grateful for the loving service of all those who cared for Beth this past 18 months.
