Verna Mae Caldwell

Verna Mae Caldwell, 89, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on March 2, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by her children.

Verna was born on April 9, 1931 in Mona, Utah to Violet Estella and Raymond Mark King. She loved and adored her parents deeply.  She graduated from Provo High School in 1949. She met her husband, Don Dee Caldwell, on Jan. 16, 1950 and was married two weeks later on Feb. 1st.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on Nov. 13, 1963.

She lived her life caring for her family.  She enjoyed sewing clothes for her six children and grandchildren throughout their lives.  Her baking was enjoyed by many, especially her cookies. Each child had their favorite kind.  Learning from her mother, she made and shared many wonderful quilts.  Making a quilt communicated her love to those who received them.  Marriages, babies, and just keeping warm were reasons to give these gifts.  She donated many to the Primary Children's Hospital. Writing poetry was one of her joys and secret talents.  Later in life, she became a talented painter.

Verna was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings in primary, young women's, and relief society.  She loved to sing in the choir with her beautiful soprano voice and was a chorister for many years.  She treasured the opportunity to serve as a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple.

Verna is now enjoying her reunion with her parents, Estella and Raymond King, husband, Don Caldwell, sisters, Jean Stevens, Shirley Strassheim, and Bonnie King, brothers, Raymond Mark King and Earl Ned King,  daughter-in-law, Kathie Caldwell, and granddaughter, Heather Caldwell.  She left behind sisters, Loy Jolley and Marcia Nelsen, children, Steven (Joelyn) Caldwell, Raymond Caldwell, Susan (Steven) Berg, Bryce (Danna) Caldwell, Don (Teresa) Caldwell, and Deann (Carl) Jensen.  She also has 29 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren.  Her legacy will continue to live on.

Verna always wanted her home to be blessed with the laughter of children, the warmth of a close family, hope for the future, and fond memories of the past.

Verna's funeral service will be held Saturday, March, 6 at 1:00 pm at the Falcon Park Ward building, 9119 S. 1300 E., Sandy, UT.  A viewing will precede the service from 11:30-12:30.  Funeral services will also be available via Zoom (meeting details available upon request).  Interment will take place following services at the Mona City Cemetery.
