Vern Bryan Nelson, age 74, passed away peacefully on February 7th, 2018, with his wife of 33 years, Shirley Ann Nelson and their six children at his side in Laguna Niguel, CA.
Bryan was born on April 26th, 1943 in Los Angeles, California. He married his eternal sweetheart Shirley Ann Olsen on September 8th, 1984 in the Salt Lake City Temple. As a father of six, he supported his family by working 40 years as a talented aerospace engineer. He loved spending time with his wife, 6 children and 15 grandchildren, especially at the beach, mountains, lakes and family weddings, birthdays, & other special events. After retirement he served an 18-month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with his wife Shirley in the Wellington New Zealand Mission. He loved being able to serve and grew to love the people. He really enjoyed traveling the world with Shirley. And seeing many beautiful creations. He had a talent for photography and enjoyed taking and sharing his photos. He was grateful for calling to serve as a temple worker with his wife in the Newport Beach California LDS Temple for six years. Some of his children's greatest memories were their long road trips together and their trips to Hawaii. He often bore witness of his love for his Savior Jesus Christ and the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth. All will miss his smile, fun stories, and willingness to serve.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Byron O. Nelson and Ardith E. Nelson. He is survived by his wife Shirley, sister Deanna Nelson Sevigny, daughter Michelle Pattillo (Nathan), daughter Tonya A. Peterson (JR), son Brett J. Nelson (Julia), son Kevin B. Nelson (Katie), daughter Nicole E. Goettel (Bryce), daughter Jessica A. Nelson, and 15 grandchildren.
