Tommie (Tom) Mitchell passed away October 10, 2019. He was born in Salt Lake City, to Jack and Helen Wood Mitchell. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Tom grew up in Salt Lake City and attended and graduated from South High in Salt Lake City. He married the love of his life, Karen Mann, in 1966 and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1967. They made a home in Midvale, Utah and later moved to Taylorsville where they raised 5 children: Thomas (Nikol) Mitchell, Travis (Jennifer) Mitchell, Shane Mitchell, Steven Mitchell, Amber (Jeffrey) Jackson. He is survived by his wife, children, and 15 grandchildren.
Tom worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 44 years. He worked as a yard-man, break-man, and conductor. Tom and his wife Karen served a six-year genealogical mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake. As a boy, he loved baseball and excelled in most sports he played. Tom was a hard worker and loved to spend his free time doing literally anything. He could not sit still. He loved working in his beautifully landscaped yard, watching and playing any sport, going to movies and playing games with his family. He was a skilled handy-man and could literally fix anything. He loved to travel, and especially loved the outdoors. Travelling was his favorite as long as he got to spend the time with his family. He loved other people and was a favorite customer by servers at many of his favorite eating spots. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. His legacy of hard work and love of God and his fellow man will live on in his posterity. He will be missed, but those who knew him will forever be grateful he was part of their lives.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cox and the nurses in charge of Tom's care at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.
