Thomas Walker Rees "Tom," 84, passed away on December 17, 2019, at his home in Wales, Utah. He was born on March 19, 1935 to Dudley T. and Myrle Walker Rees at his grandmother Rees' home in Wales, Utah. He married the love of his life, Lucile Beryl Irving on March 19, 1972 and became a step-father to her 3 sons the same day.
Tom was especially proud of his Utah Pioneer heritage coming from John E. and Mary Rees (John opened the first coal mine in Wales, Utah and became the first Bishop there as well); James Alma and Polly Guymon James was the first Bishop in Fountain Green, Utah; Henry Grow (Architect of the Salt Lake Tabernacle).
Tom was a graduate of Snow College earning his Associates Degree. He continued his education at the University of Utah and Utah State University. He worked for Salt Lake County for 36 years holding various positions starting as a Zoning Inspector, Director of Public Works, Assistant to the County Commission and finally a Purchasing Agent.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dudley and Myrle Rees; his siblings Bebe Olsen and Frances Prather; his wife of 36 years Lucile Irving Rees; and his step-son Kendall Strate.
He is survived by his sister Merlyn Wright; his step-son Clinton Strate; his son Merrill Rees; his 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 11:00 with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 92 S. 200 W. St., Wales, UT. Interment at the Wales Cemetery.
