Thomas “Tom” Terry Spotten passed away at the age of 75 on September 15, 2023, at Utah Valley Hospital. He was born on May 30, 1948, in Colorado to Zatelle Knight and Thomas Cameron Spotten, and he was the sixth of eight siblings. He is survived by his children: Thomas (Rachel), Daniel (Sheila), Jennifer, Jodi (Brad), Bart (Heather), and Eric (Megan), along with his grandchildren, Brandon (Elizabeth), Nathan (Violet), and Connor (Acacia). Additionally, he leaves behind caring siblings, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Michael, and his son William.
His family relocated from Colorado to Utah during his childhood, which led him to fall in love with Mt. Nebo. He spent his time in Primary School gazing at the mountain, making plans to one day own a piece of it. He was fond of retelling the story. He was an active Boy Scout in his youth and graduated from Provo High in 1966. Tom served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Columbus, Ohio, area.
Over time, he realized his dream of acquiring his desired property on Mt. Nebo. One of his proudest accomplishments was single-handedly building his dream home.
Tom's love for nature was evident in his hobbies and interests. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family during the yearly family hunt. There was many a good time had on those family outings and many a mishap that made those outings enjoyable. He also cherished panning for gold with his family and often tried to do so. Many times, we would get in the truck and find a new dirt road to explore. He found solace in the great outdoors and shared his passion for the beauty of nature with those around him.
In remembrance of Tom, a viewing will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W 300 N, Nephi, UT from 10:00-11:00 AM. He will be buried at Mona Cemetery beside his beloved Mt. Nebo at 11:30 AM. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and the memories shared will continue.
