Obituary
With great sadness we announce that Tom Drury died Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Meadow Brook Care Center of complications of diabetes and COPD. We are grateful for the care he received at Meadow Brook.
Tom was born May 3, 1941 to Doctor Thomas Drury and Celia Jensen Drury. Tom graduated from South High School and the University of Utah. While he was in school, he starred in many assemblies and plays and won Utah’s outstanding actor his senior year. He was a talented singer, actor and musician.
While attending the University, he was affiliated with Phi Kappa Alpha. He sophomore year, he was chosen to play the Devil in “Damn Yankees” and performed the play over one hundred times to USO troops around the world.
He married Jean Drury after graduation and moved to California to pursue his singing career. He sang with The New Christy Minstrels, The Goodtime Singers and many duos and trios. He had small parts on television and movies. He later divorced and moved back to Salt Lake City.
Some of Tom’s best loved roles were Ben Franklin in Hale Theater’s 1776 and Tevya in Fiddler on the Roof in Murray Park. Tom loved the outdoors; his favorite camping spots were the Uintah’s and fishing at Mirror Lake with his brother and grandpa. Tom loved working with wood and created many beautiful works of art.
Tom was proceeded in death by his brother, Danny Lee, his sister, Marjorie, and his parents. He is survived by his sisters, Sharron Furness, GayLynne Lillie, Virginia Dahle, Tonya Baxter and many nieces and nephews.
Private services have been held. He will be greatly missed.
