Ted Zealley

Col. Harold E. (Ted) Zealley, USMC (ret.), 76, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at his home in Sandy, UT following a prolonged illness.  He was born on April 16, 1941, to Harold A. and C. Ruth Higgins Zealley in Newark, NJ.  On February 8, 1964, he married the love of his life, Sheron (Sherry) Rock.  After joining the LDS Church in 1975, they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple.

Ted graduated from Howe Military Academy, earned a BA in Pre-Engineering Physics (cum Laude) from Miami University, a BS from Northwestern University in Civil Engineering (with Highest Distinction) and an MBA from California Coast University.  Following his undergraduate education, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  Ted served in the Marine Corps Reserves and retired in 1993 as a colonel.  He was very proud of his service to his country.

Ted worked as a civil engineer for the U. S. Forest Service until 1990.  He then worked for Parsons Brinckerhoff and was later transferred to Salt Lake City.  Some of his accomplishments with Parsons Brinkerhoff included the Interstate 15 project in preparation for the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, working in Taiwan for a year on the high-speed rail, and returning to Sandy to work on the TRAX commuter line before retiring in 2002.

He served in numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Sherry served two missions in family history, one from home and the other at the Riverton Family Search Library. They attended the temple frequently, even the morning of his passing.

Ted's hobbies included building projects around his home, gardening, traveling, and a love for dogs!  Biking, hiking and skiing were his favorite sports.

He will be remembered for his love of his family, service to his church and country, his passion for family history, and for not only choosing to endure to the end, but also to enjoy life, in spite of his challenges. He will always be an inspiration to his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; son, Jeff Zealley, and his wife, Patti, of Riverton; daughter, Debby Glazier, and her husband, Robert, of Sacramento, CA; his sister, Marian Yeagley, of Salem, OH; 10 grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Chris Arrison, and nephew, Brian Rock.

Visitation will be on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 S 700 E, Draper and Tuesday, May 30th, from 10:00 - 11:45 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12035 S 1450 E, Sandy, where services will be held at 12 p.m.  Interment with military honors will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092.
