Steven Mark Ostler

Steven Mark Ostler returned to his heavenly home Friday, August 3, 2018. A true friend, a loyal companion, and ever the comedian, he always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Steve often said, "I better check the obituaries to see if I'm there so I know if I need to go to work." Well, he finally made it, and his family hopes he enjoys some well-deserved time off.

Steve grew up in Nephi, Utah and always shared stories about growing up on the farm with his eight siblings. He attended Juab County High School where he played football and was student body president. Immediately upon graduating high school, he entered the armed forces, which became a 20 year career. Ultimately he retired as a Captain in the United States Army.

Steve served an LDS mission in the Eastern States Mission from 1964-1966. He continued to show his love for the Lord through lifelong service to others. Steve held various callings, including serving in multiple bishoprics. He loved his Highland 19th Ward family.

Upon Steve's return from the Eastern States, he attended Brigham Young University where he earned his teaching degree. To pay for school, he took a job moving pianos with a friend, and continued to move pianos as a side job for the next 40 years. He delighted in the friendships and connections made in each home he would visit. He taught at Olympus Junior High for 30 years. When asked what he taught, his answer was always, "kids." This kind of humor was Steve's hallmark.

Steve eventually met the love of his life, and on November 26, 1975, Steve and Ruth were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. Steve is survived by his wife Ruth as well as their children, Steven (Jacy), Angela, Mikelle, and John. They have four grandchildren: Max, Sophie, Kate, and Sam. His family was the light of his life and he loved them dearly.

Steve was the son of LeRoy and Anna Grace Ostler and was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers LeRoy, David, John, and Morris.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 9621 North 6050 West, Highland, Utah. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. or on Thursday from 9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. at the chapel. Steve will be laid to rest at the Highland City Cemetery.
