Steve G. Gogo

Just after celebrating his 91st birthday, Steve G. Gogo went to sleep in death at home on Monday, February 20, 2017 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Flambrose, Greece, Steve was the son of George and Zaharia (Jenny) Gogo. Steve immigrated to the United States in 1938 with his parents and has lived in Salt Lake City since then.

In his early years, Steve attended South High School while working in his parent's grocery store. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the Army where he achieved U.S. Citizenship and served in Taiwan, the Philippines and Hawaii. After returning home, Steve met his wife Anastasia (Tessie) Polychronis at Holy Trinity Church in Salt Lake City.

Steve and Tessie moved to Bingham, Utah where he opened his own shoe store where he sold and repaired shoes for the residents of Bingham, as well as the employees of the Kennecott Copper Mine. Steve moved his store to West Jordan in 1963 after he and Tessie bought a home in the Salt Lake Valley. Gogo's Shoes and Boots has been a part of the West Jordan Community for the past 54 years. Steve had a passion for providing quality footwear at a reasonable price. He firmly believed in excellent customer service which is why he had so many 3rd generation customers. Steve was a fixture in the community and well recognized by customers in state and out-of-state. The store was his life where friends as well as customers could come, relax and share stories. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Steve was preceded in death by his wife Tessie, in 2011, and by his daughter, Georgia Gogo in 2001. Steve leaves behind his son John S. (Ginger Fauver) Gogo of Salt Lake City; granddaughter, Nicole L. Gogo (Sean McCleery); grandson, Christopher J. Gogo; and pseudo-great grandchildren, Jena and Peyton.

A viewing will be held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 State Street, Midvale, Utah from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017. Funeral services will be at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 279 S. 300 W., Salt Lake City, Utah on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing at the church on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City following the funeral.
