Skylar Michael West

"Death will come, always out of season." -Big Elk - Omaha Chief

Skylar Michael West broke open every heart he touched when his beautiful young soul left this world on May 1, 2017. He spent a short 16 years with us, but made an enormous impact on those who knew and loved him. Skylar was born November 8, 2000, to Carolyn and Michael West. His parents fostered in him a great love of the earth, a strong connection to Moab, and a love for adventure. He was an incredibly smart kid, who from a young age was always looking for a way to earn a buck. We often joked that he would be a business owner before we knew it. He was a jokester, who most of the time had a slightly mischievous grin, that slowly broke into a smile which would light up his whole face. His beautiful green eyes always held a twinkle that could be seen even from behind his "lookers." Skylar's smile, big heart, and eclectic personality made him an easy friend for those who were lucky enough to call him one. A kid with a simple palate, he often declared his love for pizza, Taco Bell, and corndogs. He loved his family, and knit tightly the relationships that he shared with them. He had a tender heart and found comfort in wearing a camel-colored "grandpa" sweater that belonged to his great-grandfather Ron.

Skylar is preceded in death by his father, Michael Burr West; and his great-grandfather, Ron Orme. He is survived by his mother, Carolyn; brothers, Jaxson and Noah; sister, Josie; grandparents, Steven and Kathryn Orme; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all of whom are devastated by the loss of him.

A celebration of Skylar's life will take place on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Natural History Museum of Utah in the Forum room. Come as you are.
