On Christmas evening, we lost a kind and beautiful person after a long and courageous battle following a stroke. Shirley was born on March 11, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa to David Hollis Smith (COL USA RET) and Annabelle M. Couch. She lived in Des Moines through her young years and became an army brat during her teen years. She graduated from Frankfort American High in 1954. She moved back to the Washington DC area with her parents where she met and married her husband of 50 plus years, Norman Winn. They were married Oct 21, 1961 and had 4 children. In 1973, they uprooted their family and moved from Arlington, VA to Sandy, UT. Shirley began work with Harmons Grocery in 1974 and retired after 27 years of service. Shirley loved going to the mountains for a day drive or a picnic or spending a beautiful summers evening in her yard. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her children, Michael (Jake the Husky), John (Amy, Angelia, James), Jim (Madeline, Gwen) and Marianne (Marty, Kody, Kourtney, Kelsea). She is preceded in death by her husband, Norm 2004, her parents and a brother.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Country Life Care Center and CareSource, and the staff in the ICU at Intermountain Medical Center.
