Shirley Barton

August 30, 1934 — January 10, 2016

Shirley Barton

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on January 10, 2016 at her home in Midvale, Utah.

Shirley was born to Gren Dene Owens and June Orton Owens on August 30, 1934 in Panguitch, Utah. She married Grant K Barton on June 22, 1957 in Panguitch, Utah. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple. She leaves behind one daughter, Rachel (Bruce); two sons, Stanley (Sarah), and Steven; two brothers, Brent and Devon; and eight grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, and Elizabeth Boyle; and Nicole, Lyssa, Dylan, Connor, and Jared Barton. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Evelyn Owens Dettamanti and Karen Owens Henrie.

Shirley was smart and fun, always interested in reading a good book, visiting a historical site, or just being with her family and friends. She had great empathy for the difficulties and sadness of others, and always wanted to help those in need.

She was a lifelong and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving wherever she was needed. She loved going to the Temple and performing the ordinances for her ancestors who had passed on. She was a Welfare service missionary for many years,  being released only after her health would not permit her to serve any longer.

Shirley had many friends and family whom she loved dearly and they loved her. The relationships she forged during her mortal life gave her great joy and she looked forward to seeing her family and friends in her future life.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m, Wednesday, January 13th, 2016 at the Midvale East 2nd Ward, 7250 South 300 East. She was buried earlier at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah.
