Sherry Pinkerman

October 6, 1938 — May 27, 2016

Sherry Pinkerman

We were distraught when Sherry did not recover from surgery and her death on 27 May 2016 took us all by surprise. She was born Irene Shearin Harger on 6 October 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to Enno and Martha Donaldson Harger, but she was always called Sherry. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when she was 12, when her mother and brother were also baptized. She never wavered in her faithfulness. She graduated from BYU in Provo, UT with a degree in Elementary Education.

She married Robert Asper after graduation. They were later divorced. She was briefly married to Skip Steimle. On 31 October 1986, she married Gene Pinkerman, who has preceded her in death. The two of them loved to dance, loved to travel the world, loved live theater, were regular temple attenders and served two missions together, one full-time to Ohio, and one for family history. Sherry had many friends to whom she was devoted, as well as close and extended family members that she was careful to keep near to her heart. As recently as last fall, she drove back and forth across the United States by herself, visiting friends and relatives, solidifying those ties of love that bind us together. Although we were not ready to let her go, we know that there are many on the other side who are very happy to welcome her, including hundreds of our ancestors for whom she has been laboring for many years.

In addition to her husband and parents, Sherry is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Harger (Peggy). She leaves her son, Jonathan Ladd Asper (Rhae), daughter, Jolianne Vincent, Lori Bakker (Roy), Alyce Stemmons (Jason), Rawlin Pinkerman (Marcia), 13 grandchildren, sister, Elizabeth Graff (Michael), and many nieces and nephews who have cared for her during this illness, and numerous cousins, all well beloved.

There will be a viewing at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street in Midvale Friday, June 3rd from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 4th at the LDS chapel, 586 E. 8400 S., Sandy, UT at 11 am with a viewing one hour prior. Interment at Memorial Estates, 3115 E. 7800 S., SLC.
