Shannon Cuma Cobbley

Shannon Cuma Cobbley was born on June 6, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Cuma and Harry Demas. She was the oldest of 5 children.

Many things she knew she learned from her father. She shared his commitment to family and passion for gardening, produce, quiet service, and a job well done. She in turn passed these on to those that she loved.

From her grandmother, she learned to love theatre and music. She loved music, art and theatre of all kinds and shared that love with all around her by performing or providing opportunities for her family to appreciate them, too. We went to museums, concerts, and performances of all kinds, but the Christmas Concert at the Conference Center was always the most treasured ticket of the year if she got them.

Shannon used to babysit to pay for piano lessons for herself. She continued to work hard at many very different jobs through her life. She worked at the D.A.'s office, in retail with furniture, lumber, metal, in management, medical billing and human resources. At each one she became an expert, worked hard, and became indispensable and then she used all her skills to help others and taught them what they needed to know. We were always amazed by everything she knew but never surprised.

The most remarkable thing about her though was her constant kind and quiet service. She was a caregiver for her mother, mother in law, and her husband in their later years. She was a constant support to her children and siblings and in their times of need. There is nothing she would not do for family. Family though, was a flexible concept to her, so many people shared her heart who she met on her life's journey. She tried to bless every life she touched. If she could do nothing else she would listen. Shannon was the best listener.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Cuma, and her sisters Sherie and Susanne. She is survived by her husband Ernest Cobbley, her two children Monica Ferdig and Michael Cobbley (Angela), her four grandchildren Amber, Aaron, Autumn, and Olivia, her sister Stacey (Dan) and brother Steven (Terri), nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends that will dearly miss her.

Graveside services will be held Monday, August 28, at 11 a.m. at the Sandy City Cemetery, 9000 South 700 East, Sandy, Utah.
