David Shane Anderson, 36, was removed from life support on April 30 while surrounded by family and close friends. And stubbornly succumbed to his injuries on May 2.
Shane was born with a natural curiosity and intelligence for electronics that was surpassed by few. As a child his hobbies were taking everything within arm's reach apart, in an attempt to learn how they work, and then put them back together, and picking on his sisters.
Even with a childhood surrounded by a loving family, Shane began to experiment with drugs at a young age. The once bright eyes of our brother were dulled by withdrawals and the need to get his next fix. The visits that our dad looked forward to so much were tarnished by Shane stealing and pawning anything he could for drugs.
Through the bad times, there were still bright spots. One of which was when he followed in our dad's footsteps and became an electrician. Dad was so proud to be able to work side by side with his son, and bragged about it often. While they weren't working the three of us were in the garage working on my dad's 69 Camaro, or picking on our little sister about how she'd never be allowed to date. That rule still stands, however.
While Shane was making strides towards recovery, our family was dealt a tough blow with the loss of our father after a long battle with brain cancer. While we all suffered through this loss, Shane took it especially hard and turned back to drugs to cope. This led to years of terrible choices and distancing himself from our family.
His death was ultimately not caused by a drug overdose, it was caused by a whirlwind of poor choices and drug use that ultimately took his life.
As his family, we are heartbroken and will miss him greatly, however we will no longer have to witness his pain or lose sleep waiting for this day to come, because it is here.
If you have loved ones struggling with drug addiction, do everything you can to be supportive and get them help.
He is survived by his sisters, Kristina, Missy and Jodie; Mother, Lorrie; And many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his loving father, David Anderson.
