Surrounded by family, Sandy Rae Sorenson passed away peacefully at home in Sandy, Utah on April 18, 2023. Sandy was born with Cerebral Palsy and was cared for by her loving parents for 46 years. She is finally free from the limitations and pain of her mortal body and is now dancing into her Heavenly Father’s arms.
Sandy was born on February 21, 1977, to Mack and Barbara Sorenson in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a ray of sunshine to everyone around her. Although she couldn’t speak, she loved listening to others, and laughing at their jokes. She worked in the church library with her parents and enjoyed seeing the ward members who came in just to say hello.
Sandy loved being entertained by her niece and nephews. She would giggle at them as they pushed each other around in her wheelchair. She also loved watching them color Easter eggs, having sleep overs, and dressing up for Halloween. Her niece, nephews and three great nephews always made her smile.
Although she never walked, Sandy loved to collect many different styles and bright colors of shoes, which never wore out. Her bedroom was filled with teddy bears, many of which were gifts from family and friends.
Sandy looked forward to being picked up by the bus and going to her day program. Thank you to all the caregivers at Lifeskills who were so kind to her. There were some people who visited her without fail on her birthday every year. Ward members have always been willing to help with anything Sandy and her parents needed. Family and friends have been so helpful and shown so much love and concern for her. Thank you! We love you all!
We are thankful for our Savior Jesus Christ, His Atonement and the knowledge that Sandy will be in a perfect and resurrected body. We will miss her immensely until we are reunited again.
Sandy is survived by her parents Mack and Barbara Sorenson; sister Monica (Dan) Cloward; brother Brett (Rochelle) Sorenson; nephews Brady (Megan) Cloward, Kaden Cloward, niece Kylie (Garett) Grant and three great nephews Rhett, Crew and Jackson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 11:00 am with a viewing held two hours prior beginning at 9:00 am at the Windy Peak Ward Chapel at 11350 South 1300 East, Sandy, Utah.
