Obituary
Dr. Samuel Glen Fletcher age 90 passed away Dec. 19. He was born in Preston, ID to Samuel Henry and Marian Ellis Fletcher. He married Josephine Redford Boudrero in the Logan Temple 1948. Parents of 5: Jed (Jan) Fletcher, Josie (Mike) Familia, Susie (John) Lundberg, Heidi (Reid) Stewart, Jenna (Ted) Stuckey. Two years in Naval Intelligence preceded USU graduation in 1951. Grade school principal and teacher, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Audiology and Speech Pathology, with an anatomy emphasis, from the U of U. Post-grad work at U. of OR. He then started the Audiology and Speech Pathology department at USU.
His wife died Dec. 1966. He married Barbara Johns in the Manti Temple Aug. 1967. With a passion for research and desire to help others, Dr. Fletcher spent many years in AL (UAB) developing the nasometer and palatometer, devices that dramatically help the deaf and others with speech handicaps.
He is preceded in death by his wife Josephine, his son Jed and his grandson Brad Stewart (Reid and Heidi); survivors include his wife Barbara, 2 sisters (Betty Christensen and Priel Blom), 4 children, 19 grandchildren, and 42 great grandchildren. Not one to believe "it can't be done" he built 3 of his homes, waterfalls, beautiful gardens, authored 6 books and numerous scientific papers, and was beloved in a variety of church callings including as stake president in Bessemer, AL, and senior missionary in Indonesia. Memorial services will be held on Jan. 3rd at 11 a.m. at the Aspen 9th Ward, 828 W. 1600 N., Orem, Ut 84057. Sam's body has been donated to the University of Utah School of Medicine for the purpose of advancing medical research.
