Ryan Atack

Ryan Alfred Atack was born at Tachikawa Air Force Base, Japan, August 30, 1968, the third son of Rodney and Carmen Atack. As a son of a military family, he attended a number of different schools, graduating from Edgewood High, Edgewood, MD. Ryan then attended Montgomery College, MD until called to serve a mission in San Juan, Puerto Rico for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Upon return, he attended Utah Valley College and University of Utah. He graduated from the Police Academy September 1992. His Police service included Patrol, Motors and Vice. Ryan distinguished himself as one of the founders of the Utah Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force earning him the honor of Officer of the Year.

"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” Ether 12:27

This became Ryan’s favorite scripture that eventually defined his life. He truly felt that his weakness was a gift from his Father in Heaven. He referred to it as a saving gift given in love. That his responsibility was to truly humble himself and receive the promise of his Savior’s grace for the weak things to become strong.

The focus point of change took place with his move to Hanksville - a small loving community that would give him purpose. He grew as he was nurtured with the right nutrients; love, acceptance, purpose, understanding friends, and the wonders of the land and area in which he loved to travel. Ryan was told in his Patriarchal Blessing “You will not be exempt from the buffetings of Satan, but you will have the strength to overcome them. You will be able to reach the state whereby you will not be tempted, by using the power which the Lord has granted unto you.” Ryan did overcome and was strengthened in moving forward. We honor him.

Ryan most recently resided in Hanksville, UT and was returning home when killed in a vehicular accident Oct. 19, 2023.

He is survived by his parents, brothers, Dallen, Greg, Jason, and sister, Alecia Baretich. Also, by his former wife, Valinda Atack and children, Ryley, Lindi Edge, Chance and Zoe, three grandchildren, loving extended family and many good friends.
