Russell Kay Hone, born November 17, 1953 in Richfield, Utah to LeVear and Kathleen Hone, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children and grandchildren on September 8, 2015. Russ was an adventurous spirit, full of life and love for all who knew or encountered him. He graduated from West High School in 1972. Russ joined the United States Army on August 6, 1972 and proudly served his country in the 19th Special Forces; he was honorably discharged January 24, 1978. Serving his community and city was important, so he spent a number of years as a reserve police officer for West Bountiful City and had a successful career with the Salt Lake City Watershed Management as Watershed Administrator from 1977 retiring in 2002.
His love for his mountains was one of his greatest joys. Russ was always connected with nature and God's creations; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, rock exploring, travel, and learning. Russ's family was his pride and joy, and he was an amazing father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He is survived by his children Brandy Maack (Wade), Tracy Hone, Travis Hone (Danielle), grandchildren Alexis & Mckenzie Nielsen, brother Bruce Hone (Janet), many nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents LeVear & Kathleen Hone, grandchildren Gracie Belle Nielsen, Khloe Kaylynn Hone, Camden Russell Hone. Our family would like to extend our deepest thanks and love to his hospice nurse Reggie.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm (comments and obituary reading starting at 6:15 pm) at The Barn, located at 6763 W. 13100 S., Herriman, UT 84096.
