Russell Brown, aged 85, was unexpectedly called home on July 26, 2018, in South Jordan, UT. Born June 26, 1933 to Louis Everett Brown and Minnie Edith Taylor, he spent his childhood in the sand hills of Oshkosh, Nebraska, on his family's farm.
In 1953, he joined the US Army. He served in Kansas at the Fort Riley base for two years, before his honorable discharge in 1955. From there he made his journey to Utah, to live with his brother in Kearns, while looking for employment. He worked as a welder at Kennecott Copper Mine for almost three decades.
It was during this time in Utah that he met his sweetheart, Florence Alena Hunt, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Following his baptism, Russell and Alena were married on May 23, 1957. A year later, on their first anniversary, they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Throughout their life together, Russell and Alena were parents to four beautiful children; three daughters, and a stillborn son. These chapters of Russell's life were treasured by him. He devoted his life to his family, doing anything and everything in his power to give of and teach them.
Together, the family enjoyed their yearly trip to Russell's home roots in Nebraska. They also enjoyed outdoor activities such as camping, hunting, and fishing. Russell was blessed with the talent of water witching. He successfully found water for many wells in Utah and the surrounding states.
Until the very end, he remained humble, dedicated to his family and in his service to God, leading by the example he set every single day.
Russell is survived by his wife, Alena, and their three daughters: Christine Dearing, Lorie Hutchinson, and Karilyn Brown. Among them are his six grandchildren: Jeremy and Jacob Hutchinson as well as Kaitlen, Keaton, Karyssa, and Karly Dearing, and his brother, Albert Brown.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Minnie Brown, along with his brothers, Stephen and Virgil Brown.
The family would like to thank members of the River 8th Ward for their help and support. A special thanks to Jed and Annaliese from Encompass Home Health.
