Ruby Buck

Ruby Glover Buck, age 91, of Midvale, UT, passed away on April 8th, 2023 due to natural causes.

Ruby was born on April 10th, 1931 to Ivan Leroy and Verla Jacobsen Glover in Midvale, UT. Ruby graduated from Jordan High School. She was sociable and energetic. Ruby was President of many clubs and enjoyed meeting people and making life lifelong friends. Wherever Ruby was, she was always very involved in her community.

During high school, Ruby worked at Hop’s Drive Inn where she met Nelson Buck. They were married on September 1st, 1950 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Ruby and Nelson were blessed with 4 children, Craig, Julie, Carla, Michael.

Ruby was often found lending a hand to Nelson at their Chevron service station. After Nelson passed, Ruby jumped through many hoops, including speaking with Senator Orrin Hatch, to obtain a gasoline allocation for the station. She was the first female owner of a self-service gasoline station in the State of Utah. She worked tirelessly to make the business successful. Ruby was beloved by each one of her customers and friends. Many would go out of their way to visit her at the station and support her. Her friends and family were her most priceless treasure.

Ruby held many church callings. Her dearest calling was the Relief Society President - four times. Serving others was an essential part of Ruby, right up until the end. She dedicated 15 years of her life to giving tours of the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, UT and 18 years to serving in the Jordan River Temple, where once again, she made many dear friends. Ruby had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. She joyfully and selflessly served the Lord and others with all her heart. Ruby was able to accomplish so many things, persevering throughout all of life’s trials, never wavering in her testimony or faith in Jesus Christ.

Ruby enjoyed playing games, yardwork, planting flowers, boating, traveling, and celebrating Holidays. She always wanted to create lasting memories with her family – she did just that.

Ruby is survived by Craig (Brenda), Carla, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother(s): Allan (Margaret), Michael (Dixie), sister: Kris Wilkerson. Preceded in death by husband: F. Nelson, daughter: Julie Ann, son: Michael, siblings: Gene (Thelma), Beth (Lester), James (Merlene), Teddy (Joanne), Joe (Karen), Dennis (Lois), Mark (Chris).
