Ronald Joseph Neil passed away in his home, surrounded by his family on August 25, 2018 in Bluffdale, Utah. He fought a brief and valiant fight with cancer. He cherished every moment with his family and continued to make loving memories until his final couple of days. He touched many lives with his kindness, love and especially his smile as he served in his community and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He lived his life to serve others by serving as a member of a bishopric, working with the scouting program and serving in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. Ron loved working with the youth in his church callings and with the 4H program.
Ron was born September 16, 1947 to Joseph Charles Neil and Ethel Irene Wagner. He was the oldest of nine children and grew up on a farm in Ignacio, Colorado. He worked hard and learned abilities and attitudes that would serve him well throughout his life. He had six brothers, Stan, Randy, Leonard, Bruce, Perry and Raymond, and two sisters Geraldine and Laverne. He grew up working alongside his dad, grandfather and brothers.
He married Nancy Hooser on June 2, 1967, in Sandy, Utah. They met because their fathers were friends and they spent summer vacations together as children.
Ron went to Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and received a degree in Biology. After Ron graduated, they then moved to Kayenta, Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation where Ron taught High School Biology and coached wrestling and football. Ron taught high school for two years and then decided that it was time to move to Sandy, Utah. Ron couldn't find a teaching position, which turned out to be a blessing and he decided to get his real estate license. He was a blessing to many as he helped families find new homes. He loved gardening, camping, hunting, farming, working with horses, and most of all spending time with his family.
Survived by his wife, Nancy Marie Neil; children, Jennifer (Zach) Newbold, Joseph (Jeanette) Neil, Eric (Krista) Neil, Lori (Jared) Carter, Brad (Alisha) Neil; twenty-one grandchildren, six brothers and two sisters.
Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ethel Neil.
The family will hold a viewing service on Thursday, August 30 from 6:00-8:00 at the Bluffdale 5th Ward Building, 2400 W. 15040 S., Bluffdale, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 31 at 11:00 with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 a.m. and interment to follow at the Herriman City Cemetery.
