Ronald Crosland Jones (98) passed away early July 23rd from complications of a massive stroke he experienced on Wednesday, July 17th, 2019. He was born July 21, 1921 to Edward Leonard and Birdie Crosland Jones on the ranch in Nortonville, Utah, just north of Nephi. He graduated from Juab High School. He married Barbara Faye Winter on February 10, 1944 in the Manti Temple. She passed away on December 6, 2000.
Ron was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many callings, including Elders Quorum Presidency, High Priests Group Leader, and many service and welfare project callings. Ron loved to work and always said the best cure for a sickness was to just get to work and work it off. He worked on a ranch near Elko, Nevada after high school as well as on the family ranch and farm, which he later purchased from his mother after his dad had passed away. He and his twin brother, Harold, worked construction where they were heavy equipment operators and they both helped build the Japanese encampment near Delta in Millard County. Ron continued to run his farm and cattle operation and also went to work for Juab County Road Department, where he worked for 38 years, most of which as Road Department Supervisor until his retirement. He loved to work on the West Desert and in Snake Valley, and loved all the families and friends he knew out there. He also worked graveyard shifts at the Premium Oil Company, mostly to support his sons on their missions. While working at the Premium, he met and became good friends with many people who to this day are great friends. Ron loved watching Monday Night Raw and Tuesday WW Wrestling, and he knew all of their names. He also loved to watch and laugh at Hee Haw. Ron loved rodeos and attended rodeos around the country and Canada. He attended every performance of the Ute Stampede Rodeo for 85 years, with the exception of the year he had a ruptured appendix and one performance this year. Ron loved to be with his family, making them laugh and having a great time. He was always the life of the party.
Ron is survived by his sons, Mark Ronald (Patty) Jones, Merrill Winter (Alice) Jones of Pocatello, Idaho, son-in-law, W. Leon Pexton, 11 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, one sister, Nadine Blackett of Nephi. Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Barbara, his parents, sister, Lapriel Rigby, brothers, Doug and twin brother Harold Jones, daughter, Monna Lee Pexton, and granddaughter, Erica Jones.
