Robert Philip Waldman

Robert Philip Waldman was born May 12, 1953, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the firstborn child of Claire and Edward Waldman.

In his early childhood, he enjoyed a variety of sports and spending time outdoors with his younger brother Rich and little sister Risa.

Robert attended Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania for his undergraduate studies and received cum laude distinction. He then attended medical school at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

After completing his rigorous studies, Robert left Pennsylvania and headed to California to establish his medical practice. Dr. Bob worked as a world-renowned Nephrologist and Addiction Medicine Specialist for over 30 years. Despite the intense demands of his career, Dr. Bob loved his job and loved his patients even more.

In addition to his passion for medicine and helping others, the great love of Bob’s life was his wife Renee who he married on September 16, 1989, in their Topanga, California backyard. Bob and Renee had three children and a variety of beloved family pets. Bob loved spending time with his family, sharing with them his great love for the outdoors, travel, and animals.

Bob took great pride in trading his “Dr.” title for a role as “Coach Bob,” and spent countless hours coaching and attending his children’s sporting events. He also enjoyed spending time at the barn with his wife and kids and watching his kids compete in horseback riding events across the country.

Bob was a devoted lifelong fan of the Grateful Dead. He attended countless Dead shows–and re-lived many by constantly listening to recordings of old shows–collected a variety of Grateful Dead memorabilia, and took great pleasure in teaching his children about the genius of Jerry Garcia.

Bob was also a dedicated Philadelphia sports fan. He loved discussing all things Philly sports (especially the Eagles), with his late brother, his children, his sister and brother-in-law, and his niece and nephews. Bob also had the great pleasure of attending the Super Bowl in 2018 where he got to see his beloved Eagles beat the Patriots for the title.

Later Bob and Renee relocated to Draper, Utah where they welcomed two sons-in-law and four grandchildren. Bob loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Dr. Bob passed away on April 19, 2024, after a long and fierce battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He spent his final moments in his home, surrounded by family. He is survived by his sister Risa Gavin (Brian Gavin); his wife Renee; his three children, Randie Potier (John), Rory Waldman (Rachel), and Riley Farnsworth (Zac); and his grandchildren Camryn, Charlotte, Noa, and Olivia.
