October 18, 1946 — January 8, 2021

Robert James Swensen

Our wonderful Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grand Father and friend to all, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 8, 2021 at the age of 74 from a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Robert (Bob) was born to James Bernard and Carol Christiansen Swensen on October 18, 1946 in American Fork, Utah.  He is the oldest of five siblings.  Bob spent his early years terrorizing Emery, Utah.  In his teenage years, the family moved to Hoytsville, Utah where he lived across the street to his future partner in life, Gayle Crittenden Swensen (deceased).  Bob graduated from Weber State College with a bachelor's degree.  To put himself through college he worked for Peter Kiewit Son's, Inc and after college became a superintendent for the company where the family travelled and lived throughout Utah, Nevada and Idaho.  Bob and his family eventually moved back to Hoytsville, Utah. Bob worked for Summit County where he retired as the Environmental Health Director after 30 years.

Bob always took pride in everything he did.  He loved to cook and especially enjoyed sharing his newly discovered culinary masterpieces with others.  Bob also made his own salsa and jams. His family and friends always looked forward to his famous caramel popcorn at Christmas. He was a multi-talented man who had the uncanny ability to accomplish anything.

After his retirement, Bob moved to Saint George where he built a beautiful home and volunteered at the Bureau of Land Management every Monday.

He truly enjoyed the warm climate of  southern Utah and embraced retirement.  He enjoyed his weekly excursions with his friends on his ATV and loved family get-togethers at "the crib."

Bob was an incredible person who was admired by so many and those who knew him, loved him... Bob was known best for his easy demeanor, his wit, his unique nicknames, his infectious laugh, and his ability to simply put a person at ease when he was around.  Bob touched the lives of so many people and he will truly be missed.  He was taken from this world entirely too soon.

Bob is survived by his two daughters Janalee Swensen (Rick) Potter, and Kacey Ann Swensen (Dan) Bates.

Grandchildren include Chabree Potter, Shaylee Potter, McKaydree Potter (Allen) Wagstaff, Essee Potter, Robert Brant Keisel, Hallie Keisel (Sterling) Munk,  Lyndi Keisel, Luke Keisel, Calli Bates, Maryssa Bates, Maci Bates and a Great Grandfather to Kyden Lew.

Brothers and Sisters include Tom (Connie) Swensen, Cathy (Dan) Cutler, Doug (Vaunadee) Swensen, Bill (Sue) Swensen.

We would like to thank Intermountain HealthCare and especially Audree Stembridge for their dedication to providing care.  We would also like to thank Goff Mortuary for their services and taking great care of dad.

Due to current circumstances only a service with close family and friends will be held. Bob's wishes and desires will be honored and a Celebration of Life will take place in the climate he enjoyed at his specified location at a later date.
