Robert Lane Nielson

Robert (Bob) Lane Nielson was born on April 26, 1955 in Richfield, Utah. He was born to Harold Bud Nielson and Joyce Allen Nielson. Bob was partially disabled, affecting his speech, his breathing, and his mobility. Bob, with the help of his mother, worked through his disability to graduate from Jordan High School in 1973. He preferred to ignore his disability.

Bob’s family moved from Richfield in 1962 and located in Sandy. The family still has that home. Bob and his mother Joyce continued to do school lessons and exercise - playing catch, walking, and keeping active. They were a good team.

Bob has two older brothers, Michael Harold Nielson of Salt Lake City and Allen C. Nielson of Kettle Falls, Washington.

Michael and his wife Kathleen moved to Southern California in the 1970’s, and Bob followed. He started a job at Methodist Hospital where he worked for 20 years, receiving awards for his dedication to work.

Michael and Kathleen have six children: Kimberly, Scott, Matt, Danny, Andrew, and Kristina. Uncle Bob spent a lot of time with the family. Bob liked living in California, especially the Rose Parade and driving around listening to The Beatles. He attended the LDS church in California.

Allen and Kate (the Washington Nielsons) and their three daughters, Amanda, Rebecca, and Emilie enjoyed many visits with Uncle Bob when he would come to visit with them up north. They took Bob and Grandmother Joyce to the 1986 World’s Fair in Vancouver, BC, where the highlight for Bob was when he saw John Lennon’s painted Rolls Royce. All the Nielsons (Californians and Washingtonians) took Bob and their mother to Cannon Beach, OR for vacation.

In 2000, Bob moved to Sandy, Utah to help his mother. Bob found a position in housekeeping at Intermountain Health that he worked dutifully for 16 years. Bob had a deep love for dogs and took great pride in his beautiful Golden Retriever, Sam.

Grandma Joyce passed in 2020. At this time he affirmed his belief that he and his mother will be reunited, with restored bodies, in keeping with the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was at this time Bob chose to do the things he knew he needed to do to renew his temple recommend. His nephew Matt took Bob to the temple. It meant a great deal to Bob.

Bob will be missed by his brothers and family. He was a courageous, charitable, and thoughtful man.
