"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."
Robert McLean Hendricks (Mac), 38, of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016. Born on December 1, 1977, to Robert and Kim Hendricks, Mac was the second of three children growing up in Idaho Falls, ID.
Mac spent many hours with his parents, grandparents, cousins and brothers on the land his family owned in Island Park, Idaho. Every day was a new adventure at "the Ranch." The Ranch was considered sacred ground for his cousins and brothers to camp, ride motorcycles, snowmobiles and let their imaginations run wild. There was never a dull moment when they would get together, especially with his cousin Jeremy. Jeremy was Mac's best friend throughout his life---they developed a friendship that will last for time and all eternity.
Growing up, Mac spent many hours in the garage with his dad. He could transform a scrap of wood into a miniature sailboat, wires and batteries into robots and bring any idea to life. Building and creating were passions he enjoyed throughout his entire life. He also spent many hours working on cars in the family garage. When Mac was 14, he bought his first car for $400---a 1973 MGB-GT that he invested time and energy to completely restore.
Mac was extremely talented and creative; he loved working on projects, many simultaneously. He had a passion for old projectors and cameras, taking them apart and putting them back together. At Christmas time, he would find an old movie for the family to watch on one of his projectors.
Mac was a loving, sensitive and very devoted friend to anyone that knew him. He had an incredible talent for photography. He was fascinated with capturing images and turning them into art. He was also an amazing artist. His meticulous drawings are masterpieces of precision and full of emotion.
Mac graduated from Alta High School in 1996, and following graduation, served a mission in Washington State. In January, 1998, he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. On April 1, 1999, he was a Private First Class Marine; in July he was accepted into the School of Infantry and received an award for meritorious academic achievement as the Academic Honor Graduate of the Motor Vehicle Operator Course 41-99. In August of that year, he received another certificate of achievement and was promoted to Lance Corporal in Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
Mac married Desiree Greenhalgh in September of 1999. On July 25, 2000, they had a daughter Raeleigh Katisyn. Mac loved being a dad---he sold his precious MG for a Jeep to carry Rae in. They went on Jeep Safari's to Moab, camping on the ranch and driving around town with the top down. Mac graduated from ITT in 2004, receiving a Bachelors Degree and was Valedictorian of his graduating class.
After divorcing, Mac moved to Seattle in 2005, working as an electrician for the Greenwood Electric Company where he perfected his electrical skills on many commercial businesses around Seattle. He then worked for HD Pacific, where he became a mechanical technician and was able to travel the world, installing machines he worked on and built.
In December, 2006, Mac met Camille Berntsen from Salt Lake City, who moved to Seattle shortly thereafter. They began building a life together in the Pacific Northwest, a place they both loved dearly. They thrived in the Seattle atmosphere---taking ferries to the various islands, having fish and chips on the pier, and visiting Raeleigh, who was living in eastern Washington. Mac and Camille were married in Waterford, Ireland on April 20, 2012, staying in a different castle every night of their week-long stay. Ireland always held a special place in their hearts, and union.
In February, 2013, Mac and Camille moved back to Utah to be closer to family. Mac worked for Amedica, where he serviced, repaired and operated sophisticated medical equipment that make spinal implants, and was an integral part of this company. He will be sorely missed.
Mac and Camille loved spending time camping in the Uintas and Yellowstone National Park, riding motorcycles, and driving their restored Triumph named "Herald" around town. They have two dogs together---Mazzy and Django. Mac bonded with Mazzy instantly and loved her dearly. Mazzy adored Mac and misses him greatly.
Mac is survived by his wife: Camille Hendricks; daughter Raeleigh Hendricks; parents: Robert and Kim Hendricks, brothers: Jared Hendricks (Dawnita) and Mitch Hendricks (Jenny).
Mac was an organ donor, and will be enriching the lives of others with this important contribution.
