Robert Earl Lloyd

Robert Earl Lloyd passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family of complications due to Parkinson's disease. Robert was born in Riverton, Utah on September 10, 1935 to Wesley Earl Lloyd and Emily Valene Petersen Lloyd. He was a lifelong resident of Riverton. Robert married Sandra Newman on September 14, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He attended Riverton Elementary and Riverton Junior High School where he excelled in art.  He drew and painted the banner for his 9th grade graduation, the theme was "Pathways of Life."  He is a graduate of Jordan High School where he participated in auto mechanics.

Robert was a Master Mechanic who utilized his skills as a diesel mechanic at Kennecott Copper Corporation for many years.  He also worked for 20 years at Hercules as a Quality Assurance Technician, x-raying rocket motors. Over the years he also held many part time jobs, one he thoroughly enjoyed was working in the sporting goods department at Gibson's in Murray.

Robert had many interests and hobbies: antique automobiles, collecting coins, stamps, bottles, rocks and license plates. Robert loved history and artifacts from the past. One place he loved to explore was the old Saltair. Robert was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When he was a young father he enjoyed serving in the Elder's Quorum Presidency in the Riverton 1st Ward. Robert loved visiting with people and had many friends.  He loved to hunt, go on fishing trips, and was a member of the Riverton Jesters, a car club that he and friends formed over 60 years ago. It evolved into a group of couples and their children who socialized and every summer met for fun vacations at Moon Lake, Flaming Gorge, Beaver Springs and Joe's Valley just to name a few.  These couples still meet today for parties and summer trips.  He loved cars and enjoyed watching the races on television as well as attending NASCAR in Las Vegas every March with his two sons.

Robert was a wonderful example of a husband and father who supported his wife and children in every pursuit. He volunteered his expertise in building whatever was needed for community events including the Miss Riverton Pageant and Stake Drama Productions. For many years he accompanied Sandra as they traveled all over the State of Utah judging local pageants for the Miss America Organization. Often times he served as a judge as well, having the ability to always pick the winner! His help and support were key in his wife's success in being elected the first female Mayor of Riverton City. As a helpmate to his spouse, he was unsurpassed. He was a hard worker all of his life, everything he set out to do was done meticulously and done right. We love you Dad, you will always be in our hearts!

Robert is survived by his three children;  Kory Robert Lloyd, Leesa Lloyd, Langford R Lloyd, all Riverton; five grandchildren, Stanley Langford Lloyd, Seattle, WA; Chandler Rockwell Lloyd, West Valley City;  Spencer Andrew Lloyd, Caleb Alexander Lloyd, and Kailey Ann Lloyd, Bluffdale.  He is also survived by sisters; Carol Odenwalder (Robert) West Jordan and Leah Bird (Wayne) South Jordan; sisters-in-law Marsha Shaw, Riverton and Joan W. Lloyd, West Jordan.  Robert is preceded in death by his wife Sandra N. Lloyd, parents and brothers, Douglas R. Lloyd and James B. Lloyd.
