Robert €Œbob†Charles Engstrum
On May 26th, 2021, Robert "Bob" Charles Engstrum left us to rejoin his forever sweetheart, Lois.
Robert began his life 1/6/28 in Draper, Utah. As a teenager he trained alongside his father in his garage to become a mechanic.
He was very proud of his Military service. At the age of 17 he begged his father to sign for him, (because he was too young) to enlist in the Navy. During World War ll he served on a tanker that fueled the last Japanese cruise in Sasebo, Japan. The rest of the cruisers had been sunk. He was discharged into the US Navy Reserve on 1/12/1949. He married his sweetheart, Lois, on June 14th, 1949. He was recalled for activate duty and served 11/1950 - 2/1952 at which time he was discharged due to expiration of enlistment. He earned The World War ll Victory American Theatre, Good Conduct and The Asiatic Pacific Honor Medal Awards. He also earned The Korean Service Medal and The United Nations Service Medal. He then went home to start a family and his career journey and adventures.
He worked alongside his father once again upon returning home at the Union Pacific Railroad. Robert then purchased a garage with his brother-in-law, A&E Automotive in Murray, Utah. He worked as a mechanic for Western Airlines and retired from Delta Airlines.
Robert was an amazing mechanic, if it was broken, he was the guy to fix it. He really loved to fish and be in the mountains. He was fascinated with cars, especially race cars. Driving, racing or watching. One of his hobbies was building his TR4. He was very proud of his pilot's license and had his very own plane. Robert loved having animals, they even had a pet monkey, but his heart belonged to Bella. Best buddies to the end. I don't know who needed who more.
Robert absolutely loved serving with The Honor Guard of the Utah Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he had many responsibilities and held many titles. He treasured the many friends he made at the VFW.
Robert will be forever loved and missed as a father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be remembered by his children, Robert (Sandy), Reneé and Randy (Loretta), his grandchildren, Tara, Brandy, Alex, Colby, Nissa, Michelle, Jess and Joe. Also, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends!
Please join his family for a graveside service (ONLY), on Wednesday, June 2nd at 11 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah 84092).
