Richard (Dick) Gordon Brown

Richard (Dick) Gordon Brown, 93, passed away on October 30, 2017 in Bountiful Assisted Living, having outlived all his siblings. He was born in Oakland, California to Lawrence and Fanny Brown on December 10, 1923. His family moved often, living on farms, running stores, and homes, which gave him a hard work ethic that he cultivated throughout his life, as evidenced in serving in the Army Air Corp 1943-1945 enlisting as a private and discharged as a lieutenant, working for Mountain Bell, owning a dairy farm, mushroom farm, small businesses, and building a home at the age of 64. He married his true love, Ruby Searle in 1942. They had 7 children and lived in Salt Lake City, Centerville, St. George, and Germany. He served in the Bishopric Centerville 2nd ward, High Councilman, Bishop of Centerville 10th and 14th Ward, Branch Presidency in Servicemen�s Branch, District Presidency, and Branch President in Germany, and transient Bishop of Welfare Square. He served in the Salt Lake City temple for 25+ years. In 1986 he and his wife served a Service Traveling Mission all over the USA and into Canada overseeing church emergency trailers. He loved his�5 sons and 2 daughters and especially his Grandchildren. Many of his children and Grandchildren have benefited from his wisdom, example, and loving counsel and advice. His Grandchildren in turn served him through meals at their homes, meals brought into his home, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas traditions, employment, vacations, fixing computers, doing projects for him, yard work, sprinklers, mowing his lawn, long distant phone calls, tributes at schools to his military service, planting his garden, doing his laundry, etc. He was the kind of Father and Grandfather that you wanted to serve because he never complained and was always so grateful and loving. He loved his ward family, handing out many of Ruby�s CD�s to anyone he could think of. His fun personality and humor were enjoyed by all who knew him. He and Ruby invited many members over for dinner. His zest for life and endurance preserved him to a month shy of turning 94. He was a great builder and carpenter and designed and constructed his present home by himself with help from family and friends. Dad had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid hiker, climbing all the summits of the Wasatch Range as well as many in the Uinta Mountains. He was a life time scouter, earning his eagle scout, silver beaver award, and spending every summer vacation with the scouts on week trips to the high Uinta Mountains. He was cared for the last 4 years by his loving son, Richard (Duff) Brown, many friends, family, neighbors and Centerville 5th Ward members. He is survived by his children: Keros Brown (Genevieve), Susan Brown Wright (Tim), Wendell Brown (Terri), Judy Brown Cella (Ron) and sister in law Kwan Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby, three sons: Stephen Brown, Tracy Brown, and Duff Brown. A viewing will be held Friday November 10th, 6-8 pm at Centerville South Stake Center 100 North 300 East, Centerville, Utah. Funeral Services will be held at the same building, Saturday, November 11th, 11:00 am with a viewing prior 9:30-10:30 Relief Society Room. Internment is at the Centerville Cemetery 650 East 400 South, Centerville, Utah. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to all who cared for him, Emily and Juan Linarez, Envision Hospice, Parker, Angela, Hailey, Mitch, Yvonne and Grant Phillips Aspen Funeral Home enlisted, and many others who cared for him.
