Rex George Rogers left this world on his terms, December 15, 2017, after what he felt was a full and thankful life. Rex was born and raised in Kanosh, Utah to Lloyd Franklin and Helen Jane Bird Rogers on December 21, 1923. Life was very tough for Rex during the depression, and after graduating from Millard High School, he enlisted in the Navy during WWII. Although never seeing active duty, it was serving on a naval base while training pilots to land on tiny strips, where he just happened onto what would be his lifelong barber career.
Rex met his first wife, Phyllis Roylance, while attending barber school. They were married in 1947 and divorced in 1951, after having 2 daughters, which he cherished. He met his second wife, Faye Bowen Day, who had been recently widowed, and after falling in love with her and her 4 small children, they married in 1958. Together, they became a staple of the small Draper community, with Rex being renowned as the local barber and Faye, a hairstylist, operating a salon from their home. Together they had 1 daughter, Anne, who was as the other brothers and sisters most loving referred to, the "spoiled" one. Rex continued cutting hair at his humble barber shop on Fort Street, serving many faithful clients, until the age of 92.
Everyone in old Draper, knew "Rex and Faye" and when local development required them to give up their old home on 12200 South, they were thrilled to have the experience of building and living in a new home in Draper, which they both treasured. Rex loved his family dearly and expressed this often. He was proud of all his children and treated Faye's children as his own. Rex is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Faye and 2 daughters, Kathy Greenig Parker and Anne Pinarelli, which caused Rex much sadness.
Survived by his 2 daughters, Kathleen Klindt of St. George, and Cheryl (Doug) Perkins of Salt Lake City; 3 sons, Gordon (Sue) Day of Sandy, Paul (Carmen) Day of Anchorage, AK and LaMont (Susan) Day of Draper; 17 grandchildren, Shon, Shannon, Amy, Jason, Emily, Kyle, Derek, Danika, Steven, Sara, Michelle, Grace, Sunny, Kami, Jesse, Aundrea and Jason P., their spouses and several great grandchildren; sister, Patricia "Pat" Anderson of Monroe.
Funeral services and a celebration of Rex's life, will be held at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 S. 700 E., Draper, Utah on what would have been Rex's 94th birthday, Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 12 Noon. A viewing and visitation will be held just prior to the services between 10:00-11:45 a.m. Interment, Draper City Cemetery.
