Reed Charles Newbold
Reed Charles Newbold, 93, passed away on June 7th, 2019 in West Jordan. He was born on January 25th, 1926 in Union, to Delbert and Louise Newbold. Reed married his high school sweetheart Enid Olson on April 2nd, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Reed graduated Jordan High School in 1944, then joined the Army Air Corps right after graduation and served in Germany as a Demolition Expert, destroying old war weary B-26 bombers. He majored in Music and graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Education in 1951. He taught at South Summit; Lehi and Bingham High Schools; Mount Jordan and Butler Jr. High. He taught History and Music (Band), for 32 years. During the summers and after school, He could be found doing finish Carpentry.
Reed was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the 60's, until he was called as the Bishop of the Sandy 16th Ward, he was also the Bishop of the Union 13th Ward. He has served in multiple bishoprics, as well as a couple of missions, which he cherished. Reed enjoyed serving in the Jordan River Temple. He loved all of his many church callings and the interaction he had with others.
Reed was an accomplished craftsman; he really enjoyed woodworking, wire sculpting (which he won multiple awards for), tole painting and making furniture. Reed was always making his own tools with whatever was on hand - usually just scraps. For many years he was in a band that played on the weekends, to help support his growing family, he was a very talented trumpet player.
Survived by: his children, Linda (Dale -dec.) Dibb, Claudia (Kent) Farnsworth, David (Vickie) Newbold, Kent (Glennis) Newbold, Brad (Kathy) Newbold; his brother Bob (Margie) Newbold, 54 Grandchildren, 74 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Enid Olson (Wife of 55 yrs.), Francis Jenkins (Wife of 18 years); Sons Brian and Neal Newbold and Daughter Sydni Zombro; granddaughter Sierra Newbold and great grandson Oliver Dibb; Brother Gene Newbold and Sister Blanche Brady.
Viewing will be at Goff Mortuary Friday, June 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, (8090 S. State Street, Midvale). Funeral will be on Saturday, June 15th at 11:00 am, with a viewing prior at 9:30 am (2666 West 7000 South, West Jordan).
Reed's family would like to thank Symbii Home Health and Hospice, especially his nurse Joan for the care she gave to him.
