Randolph "Randy" Charles Speers

Randolph Charles Speers, affectionately known as Randy, Mole, and Loafy left this life on Friday afternoon, Oct 27, 2017 doing one of his favorite activities- digging in the yard with his metal detector. Randy lived a full life starting on January 8, 1947 at the Holy Cross Hospital. The first decade of his life was spent in Garfield, and then Magna, Utah. The First part of the second decade was spent in Kearney, Arizona, where he learned to love looking for �buried treasures.� Randy returned to Salt Lake with his parents, Elmer C (Bud) and Vivian Speers and Sister Saundra. He graduated from Highland High in 1965 and enlisted in the Army in March of 1966. He served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne and returned home in November of 1968. Using his discharge money and GI bill, a jeep and was bought. Randy earned a degree in History from Westminster. Randy used his history degree for a few short months in the Peace Corps in Micronesia on the island of Pompeii (suck �em up Pompeii) until an ear infection sent him home. While enjoying his jeep and good friends in the desert of SE UT, he decided to attend nursing school. While taking pre nursing sciences at the University of Utah, he met his wife Jennifer. Randy obtained his associates degree in Nursing from Weber State College in June of 1978 and then married Jennifer on August 19th of that same year. Nursing turned out not to be Randy�s thing so he returned to his life of being a handy man and ended up helping many elderly ladies. Randy was a gentle giant, that in his day, loved a good party with friends, building additions on the house with is dad, and enjoying his life. He loved doing genealogy, sorting his never ending pictures of friends, traveling, and digging for treasures. He fought Parkinson�s for the last decade of his life with grace. Many, many thanks to Anna, Dolt, and Robert, and all of his good friends that helped make the last few years �doable.� When the physical body gives out, while doing what you loved the spirit is happy and at peace. An open house to remember Randy will be held November 18th from 4-6 pm and the Chase Mill at Tracy Aviary.
