Ramona Naomi Bendixen Hoyt Wilson, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, 91, unexpectedly graduated to a better life Friday evening Feb. 19, 2021. Mom was born Dec. 22, 1929 in Mills, Utah, a very small farming community in Juab County. She was born to goodly parents, James Embro and Sarah Winter Bendixen, who taught her how much her Savior and Heavenly Father love each one of us. When Mom prayed, you could feel her love of, and faith in Them.
The small home that Mom was born in was made of railroad ties. Because it was located on a small hill, it could not be connected to Mill's culinary water system. Mom enjoyed riding with her father in a horse-drawn wagon, to get their water from the Sevier River in wooden barrels. Mom learned at an early age that to survive it was necessary to work together as a family in the home and on the farm. Mom was known for her work ethic. She taught us by her example, the value of hard work. She was a great example of self-reliance and independence. After living in Mills for a few years, the family moved to the Salt Creek ranch, several miles south of Levan. Two years later, they purchased a home and small farm in Levan.
Mom married Kenneth James Hoyt on 21 June 1948. They lived in Nephi when their 1st son, Terry, was born. Dad was called back into the Navy during the Korean War, and the 3 of them moved to Stockton, CA for about a year. After which, they moved back to Nephi, until shortly after the birth of their 2nd son, Mark. They then moved to Levan; where they lived when their 3rd son, Dennis, and 2 daughters, Ramona Lisa and Rebecca Lea, were born. Mom and Dad were divorced in 1971. Mom married Ralph Glen Wilson on 20 May 1972. They were divorced in 2015.
Mom did not have much in the way of worldly wealth in this life. However, because of her example and loving teaching, she could say, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." 3 John 1:4. Mom's life was one of sacrifice and service to others. We are comforted at her passing in knowing that "sacrifice brings forth the blessings of Heaven." We know Mom is enjoying a great reunion with her parents, sisters (Cleo Garrard and Eunice Lindhardt) and brothers (Leo and Warren), extended family, and friends. Many treasured memories were made during countless activities with extended family. Mom also loved her neighbors, and they loved her.
Mom greatly valued her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her 5 years of service as an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple. She was a teacher in the Sunday School, Relief Society, and MIA. She was a counselor in the Ward and Stake MIA Presidencies. Mom loved music. She played the piano at home, and was Primary or Ward Chorister from age 14 to age 80. Mom had many talents. She could budget better than most, providing for herself and her 5 growing children on a meager monthly amount for many years, out of necessity. She wanted to be a nurse, and her 3 young sons' accidents gave her many opportunities to develop her nursing skills. She used these skills later in life while caring for her younger daughter and her mother for many years.
Mom is survived by her 5 children: Terry (Nancy), Mark (Lorna), Dennis (May), Lisa York, Becky (Joe) Christensen; 12 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, in person attendance will be limited to family for the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 27th located at the Church on 8171 S. Jackson St. (250 W.) Midvale.
Interment at the Levan Cemetery.
