Rachel Naomi (Moore) Westerlind passed away peacefully on December 4, 2019 at the age of 80 after a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer's. Born on November 9, 1939 to Otto Rawling and Pearl Virginia Smith Moore, she grew up in Staunton, Virginia where she met and married Franklin Westerlind on November 7, 1959. She joined the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1964 and remained an active and faithful member throughout her life. In 1966, She moved to Illinois where she raised her four children, living initially in Alsip and later in Tinley Park. Finally she moved to Utah to be closer to her family and finished her life in Draper.
Rachel had a great capacity to love everyone, but she especially loved children. She was the epitome of a mother. She could always be found with the children: playing with them, caring for them, and loving them. Her children and grandchildren were her primary joy.
She enjoyed working, and worked hard throughout her life. She left home at a young age to tend the children of another family in Staunton, VA. She later worked at Wright's Dairy-rite, the Little White Diner in Staunton, the laundry house and at Peoples Drug Store. In Illinois, she tended children in her home while raising her family and later worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints caring for their chapels as well as the Chicago Illinois Temple. After retirement, she served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints working in the conference center in Salt Lake City.
