R. Roscoe Garrett

R. Roscoe Garrett, a well-known and respected man, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2018 at the age of 99. Ross was born on the family farm west of Nephi on August 23, 1919 to Robert P. and Erma Jones Garrett.

He graduated from Juab High School and served a mission to the Western States Mission. After his mission he served in the Army during the Korean War. He has served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including President of Juab Stake for 18 years. He was a dedicated Home Teacher, Gospel instructor, and knowledgeable scriptorian.

He served over 40 years on the Central Utah Water Conservancy board, including several years as vice president and president. He was Juab County Commissioner for 12 years, Chairman of the Six County Commissioners Organization, a member of the board of the Private Industry Council for Central Utah. He was a member Governor Matheson's committees of criminal and juvenile justice. He was a member of the Juab County Fair Board, the Juab Cattlemen's Association, and the Forest Service Advisory Board.

Agriculture was been a lifetime profession for Ross. He managed Nephi's Utah Poultry and Intermountain Farmers stores. He ran a successful cattle and farming operation. He always had good horses and enjoyed many rides with friends and family.

When he received the Snow College Distinguished Citizen Award it was said that Ross Garrett always believes in going the extra mile on any project with which he is associated with ... he can always be depended on to do his best.

On May 6, 1943 he married the love of his life Aleen Lundell from Benjamin in the Manti Temple. Aleen passed away on June 25, 1968. They had four children, Judy (Jim) Higginson, deceased; Susan (Leon) Winter; Blake (Susan) Garrett and Paula (Jim) Bosh. He has 20 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his brother Joe, sisters Lucy, Afton and baby Elizabeth. He is survived by his sister Corrine.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, September 24, 2018 in the Nephi Stake Center, 351 N 100 W. Family and friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W 300 N Nephi, UT and at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery.
