On October 20, 2016 in the pre-dawn hours, the heavens did part, and took the soul of our Daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, Tia and friend home to be with her Savior and Lord in Heaven. Prescilla was a loving person, with a giving, caring heart, who loved her family completely from the very start. She will be greatly missed and forever loved; her spunk, attitude and Latina temper will never be forgot.
On June 4, 1953 she was born at home in La Madera, New Mexico to Edwardo Ernesto and Ramona Gutierrez Lucero. She had the nickname Pejjy from her mom from the start. A little golden haired, brown eyed chubby cherub is what her pictures will remind you of. She was the second child born of 6 to her mom.
A move to Monte Vista Colorado came in 1955. Her school days would start in this little town, she would attend K-3nd Grade with her older sister and brother joining her there. The last year of school they attended a 7th Day Adventist Church. A move to Gunnison, Colorado was just for a few months, then the big move here to Utah came in 1963. Prescilla, her mom, sisters & brothers came with Tio Maggie (Margarito) and a neighbor from Gunnison. They got a little house down off of 3300 South and attended Blaine Elementary for just 1 school year. The next move they made would be south to Midvale. Here she attended Midvale Elementary and Midvale Junior High School, there she completed the 9th grade and her school days would end.
Prescila was married in 1969 to Jose "Joe" Maldonado. They were married at the Pioneer Hall in West Jordan, Utah when she was just 16. They divorced in 1970.
Prescilla met George Mascarenas and they were married in Elko Nevada in September 1972. Their oldest child Lawrence "Larry" was born in 1973. Although they divorced in March of 1974, they re-married in November of 1974 in Midvale, Utah. Their second child, Carl was born to them in 1975. In 1977, their daughter Georgia was born. Prescilla and George divorced for the last time in July of 1980. Prescilla was a mother who loved her children fiercely and took pride in their appearance. They were always picture perfect clean and never had a hair out of place.
On September 1st of 2004, a tragic accident took the Prescilla we all knew. A drunk driver struck her from behind as she walked down the street. But the good Lord above knew her work here was not yet complete. She survived an extensive surgery most don't make it through. We know her children, mother and family still needed her here by their sides. She was an anchor of learning and loving without speaking a word. She had to make sure her children were all grown. Her last years were spent in a few nursing homes. The most recent was Copper Ridge Health Care Center where she was 'home.' The family can't express the thanks for the care that Prescilla was lovingly given there. The nurse's aides, the nurses and even the staff made her last years more comfortable with round the clock care.
The love she had for her family was always quite clear. Her family was her legacy and there are many she leaves here. Her Mother: Ramona Gutierrez Santana Nelson. Children: Larry Mascarenas, Carl (Veronica) Mascarenas and Georgia Mascarenas. Her favorite grandchildren, the loves of her life: Savannah Lopez, Dominic Mascarenas, Robert Mascarenas, Marissa Mascarenas, Isabella Mascarenas, Bianca Mascarenas, Prescilla Mascarenas, Lawrence Mascarenas, Angelica Gomez & Michael Gomez. Two sweet young Great Grandsons who won't know her kisses: Anthony Mascarenas-Avila & Jayden Mascarenas-Avila. Her Siblings she laughed with and truly respected: Martha (Ben Jr.) Reyes, Edward (JoLynne) Lucero, Joanna Andujo and Sadie (Johnny) Reyes. Her favorite nieces and nephews who gave her back lots of love and kisses: Renee, Troy, Marlene, Misty, September, Anthony, Misty, Angelica, Chayanne, Micheala, Jazmine, Brayden, Garrett and Christian. She was preceded in death by her father Edwardo Lucero, Papa: Guadalupe Santana, Brother-in-law Jonathan Shay Martinez and her brother Carl Raymond Lucero. We can only imagine the reunion they are having up in Heaven!
On Thursday, October 27, 2016 we will say until we meet again, but not goodbye. Her legacy lives on and we have precious memories. We ask that you please join the family that day. At 11 am we will be at The Door Christian Fellowship Church (6752 Airport Road, West Jordan, Utah). A luncheon will immediately follow the service. We look forward to celebrating her life, our memories and your stories of Prescilla there.
